Coffeehouse Readings
Homepage
Homepage of The Firelands Writing Center of BGSU Firelands College in Huron, Ohio.
We are a co-operative of regional writers seeking to promote the art of good writing. Our particular focus is Northern Ohio, but by extension the whole Midwest.
We have been around for 25 years sponsoring monthly writer workshops, open-mic and featured readings, the Island Writers' Retreat, and publishing The Heartlands Today Literary Journal, then Heartlands: A Magazine of Midwest Art and Writing. Though those publication have ceased, we continue with our work at sharing and promoting good writing. We have been supported by grants from The Ohio Arts Council.
To contact for further information, e-mail to
Dr. Larry Smith, director
Workshops are done by the writer submitting 1-3 poems, or 3-5 pages of prose (essay or fiction) to the director. A worksheet is run off and distributed at the meeting. The writer will then read his/her work aloud and take comments. It's all free and open to the public...the college community at large.
